With a capacity for only 28 clients at a time, the facility provides both a tight-knit peer community and the privacy necessary to begin a recovery journey. Clients socialize regularly at game nights and outings.
Residents enjoy a healthy and tasty menu designed by nutritionists and an on-site executive chef. Clients with specific dietary needs or preferences can be accommodated.
Treatment Protocol and Team
Watershed believes that no two clients are the same. As such, no two treatments are the same. Before beginning treatment, residents go through an extensive intake evaluation that includes a personal and family medical history as well as a comprehensive account of substance use. Based off the results, the Watershed team designs the most effective individualized treatment strategy tailored to address the unique needs, goals and circumstances of the client.
When necessary, clients transition directly from intake into the detox program. Watershed offers a medical detox program with around-the-clock medical supervision by physicians and nurses, and non-addictive medication that mitigates painful withdrawal symptoms. While the length of detox can vary depending on the needs of the client, most people complete the process within a week. The facility understands that going through detox can be a lonely experience. As such, group therapy and activities are offered to increase interpersonal interaction and strengthen the peer community. Upon completion of detox, clients typically transfer into the residential phase.
Watershed employs a holistic, integrative approach to care that includes an array of medical and therapeutic methods including evidence-based therapies, medication management, holistic practices and recreation. Clients engage in weekly individual therapy and daily group sessions led by Master’s-level therapists trained in CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and EMDR to treat trauma as an impetus for current disorders. Residents meet with a psychiatrist for an assessment and medication management. Psychoeducation courses cover an array of related topics including gender-specific issues, the disease of addiction, recovery, coping skills and self-care. Clients also take part in mindfulness meditation classes and participate in regular 12-step support meetings.
Watershed understands the significant impact that family support plays in the success of a client’s long-term recovery. To this end, the facility provides an effective family curriculum that integrates psychoeducation, therapy and coping strategies. Families learn how to best support the client while also taking care of themselves. The facility educates about the importance of boundaries and clear, effective communication. The length of the residential phase at Watershed varies from person to person depending on their needs. Typically clients stay between 21 and 30 days.
The facility offers comprehensive PHP and IOP programming that lasts 14 days and seven days, respectively. These programs are ideal for clients either on a step-down basis from the residential phase or for individuals in need of a consistent therapeutic structure that cannot commit to an inpatient program. The IOP offers evening therapy hours, so clients can receive group therapy without taking time away from work or school. The curriculum includes off-site 12-step meetings, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, individual and group counseling.
The multidisciplinary Watershed team is comprised of board-certified psychiatrists, LMHCs, physicians, recovery counselors, sober coaches and a nursing team. Credentials include MD, DO, PhD, ANCC board-certified and LCSW. Watershed boasts an impressive staff-to-client ratio. There is one therapist for every five clients, and a psychiatrist for every 18. Watershed offers dual diagnosis support for clients with co-occurring mental and physical illnesses.
