  • Heather Locklear Ordered To Mandatory Treatment For Attacking EMT

Heather Locklear Ordered To Mandatory Treatment For Attacking EMT

The actress recently pled no contest to eight misdemeanor offenses and will receive treatment in lieu of jail time.

In lieu of jail time, Heather Locklear is headed to a residential mental health treatment facility in the wake of a case involving battery on a police officer.

The actress, 57, recently pled no contest to eight misdemeanor offenses, included six having to do with battery on a police officer or EMT, TMZ reports. Rather than a 120-day jail sentence, the judge on the case opted for Locklear to complete 30 days of treatment at the facility.

According to a statement from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Locklear was facing charges of “five counts of battery on a peace officer, one count of battery on emergency personnel and two counts of resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.”

    The Incident

This comes after Locklear was arrested in both February and June of 2018. In the February incident, the actress allegedly attacked her boyfriend and a police officer who responded to the scene while she was under the influence. In June, law enforcement again responded to a call of a disturbance. Locklear was allegedly heavily intoxicated and again attacked a police officer and EMT.

In the past, TMZ has reported Locklear’s struggles with both substance use disorder and her mental health. In the past, she has been placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold and has also been to treatment numerous times.

Most recently, she was in treatment this past May, a source told People

“She went back to rehab two weeks ago,” the source said. “She went back to the place she left before Christmas. She had left for three days right before Christmas and never gone back… Heather’s problem is she doesn’t get serious about anything. She was continuing to drink.”

Locklear’s mental health and substance use disorder have allegedly driven a wedge between her and her daughter, Ava, according to the same source.

“Her issue is alcohol, pills, and her mental health,” the source added. “She doesn’t want anybody to hold her accountable. She has no job, nothing to keep her accountable. This has been tearing up her family. It’s been an ongoing issue for many many years. It has been horrible for Ava.”

In addition to being ordered to treatment this time, Locklear was also placed on three years of unsupervised probation during which she cannot have weapons, unprescribed medications or alcohol, TMZ reports. She has been instructed by the judge to be in treatment by September 6.

  • Charlie Sheen Speaks Candidly On Ex Brooke Mueller's Rehab Stint

Charlie Sheen Speaks Candidly On Ex Brooke Mueller's Rehab Stint

Sheen told The Blast that Mueller was “tucked away (yet again!) for the umpteenth billionth time.”

Actor Charlie Sheen spoke openly about his ex-wife Brooke Mueller’s recent stay in a trauma center following the release of video footage that appeared to show her visibly intoxicated and holding what was reported by sources to be a pipe with crystal meth in 2018.

Sheen told The Blast that Mueller, to whom he was married from 2008 to 2011, was “tucked away (yet again!) for the umpteenth billionth time” in a facility on the East Coast. He added that he was helping to care his two sons with Mueller, Bob and Max, with the children’s grandparents, but also noted that the “boys need their mom, and hopefully one day soon, they will finally have one [sic].”

The video of Mueller from 2018 showed the one-time actress and special correspondent for Extra in a van in Spokane, Washington, holding what appeared to be a pipe to smoke crystal meth.

Her son, Bobby, was in a nearby hotel room by himself, which prompted hotel staff to contact police. Officers found the boy in the room, as well as the prescription anxiety medication clonazepam, and stayed with Bobby until she returned an hour after her initial departure. Mueller was not charged with any infraction, and checked into another hotel.

    The Southampton Incident

The video comes on the heel of another report from July 2019, which claimed that Mueller was seen at a Rite Aid drug store in Southampton, New York. Witnesses claimed that Mueller, who appeared “distraught” and was carrying several suitcases, asked an unnamed individual to take her in. Once at his shared rental, Mueller reportedly opened the suitcase to reveal a sizable amount of drugs, which she allegedly shared with other individuals at the rental.

Page Six also reported that an audiotape recording, reportedly made less than a day after the Southampton incident, allegedly featured Mueller traveling in New York with an unidentified individual and looking to obtain narcotics. Mueller can reportedly be heard saying that she wanted to find “cocaine and meth, crystal and coke, and if it’s even possible, it has to be the tar, black tar,” referring to a free base form of the drug, before adding that the latter was not for her.

When contacted about the audiotape, Mueller told sources that she was “more than OK,” and was with her treatment time at the time the recording was alleged to have been made. She also noted that she had never done heroin in her life, and described the whole media frenzy over her reported behavior as “out of control.”

When asked about the two incidents, Sheen – whose own history with substance dependency is well documented (5) – confirmed to The Blast that his former spouse was “currently tucked away (yet again!) for the umpteenth billionth time, seeking the help she needs.” He added that “between myself and the boys’ two amazing sets of grandparents, we will continue to seamlessly love shelter and protect Bob and Max, from the haphazard choices and unsightly behavior their mom refuses to extinguish once and for all [sic].”

Sheen added that the boys needed Mueller, and hoped that she would return to them “one day soon,” but until then, “on every front we got this [sic].”

  • Bam Margera Says He's Sober, Steve-O & Others Express Concern

Bam Margera Says He's Sober, Steve-O & Others Express Concern

Steve-O and Brandon Noval both expressed strong concern over Margera’s behavior and addiction struggle.

Despite concerning social media posts and agreeing to another trip to treatment, former Jackass star Bam Margera is claiming he is abstaining from both alcohol and drugs.

According to Pop Culture, Margera shared a photo of himself earlier this week, captioned, “By the way i was evaluated and tested for alcohol and drugs, the results were negative. Not drunk or drinking, and not on drugs either!!”

Margera has had on and off struggles with substance use disorder in recent years and has been in treatment various times https://www.thefix.com/bam-margera-enters-rehab-third-time.

Most recently, he was part of an intervention with Dr. Phil, during which he agreed to enter treatment once again. The intervention came as a result of an Instagram video Margera later deleted, in which he spoke about his family issues and asked Dr. Phil for help.

    Bam’s Mom Speaks Out

After the intervention, Margera’s mother, April, spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the circumstances.

“The only thing that we really want is for Bam to be happy and to find peace in his life and in turn we’d like to find peace in ours,” she said. “We just have to take one step at a time and hope that everything is going to work out OK.”

“For him, he’s just gone off the rails, and I don’t think he can handle what’s going on,” she continued. “So if he reached out to Dr. Phil cause he’s seen Dr. Phil’s show, I mean so be it. Do we want to really air all this stuff? No, not really, but you know, if that’s what he wants to do and that’ll help him get some help, then I think we’ve come up with a good plan. Between the Jackass guys and Dr. Phil, it’s a whole community of people.”

Margera’s former Jackass co-stars, Steve-O and Brandon Novak, have both gotten sober themselves and have spoken out about being supportive of Margera’s recovery. When Margera posted a list of people who check in on him, claiming it was “frustrating,” Steve-O took to the comments.

    Steve-O Gets Real

“I’m sorry if it’s frustrating for you that we care enough to keep trying to get through to you, Bam,” Steve-O wrote. “It couldn’t be more clear that all of this isn’t OK, and I hope you’ll join me and Novak in recovery before your son loses his dad. And, by the way, none of this looks cool (which is a good thing, because it’s humiliating myself that motivated me to commit myself to a program of recovery). It’s time to give up the fight, and join the winning team. I love you, brother…”

Novak also stepped up, adding “I as well as every other name on ur list are actual ‘real friends’ of yours who truly care about ur well being and quality of life. We WILL NOT condone ur fatal behaviors or justify ur actions in hopes of u not getting angry with us……. I refuse to high five u to ur grave!!!!! I love u and will do whatever it takes to help u so please f—ing let me/us.”

  • Lea Michele, "Glee" Castmates Post Tributes To Corey Monteith

Lea Michele, "Glee" Castmates Post Tributes To Corey Monteith

Last weekend marked the sizxth anniversary of Monteith’s 2013 overdose death.

The late actor Corey Monteith was remembered via social media posts by his Glee co-stars, including his former girlfriend, Lea Michele, who has paid tribute every year on social media since his death from an accidental overdose in 2013.

Michele posted an image of the sun behind clouds over a body of water with the message “The light always remains,” while fellow castmates Kevin McHale, Amber Riley and others also remembered their friend with their own posts.

Monteith died in a Vancouver hotel room from an overdose caused by a toxic combination of heroin and alcohol, among other substances, on July 13, 2013.

    “He Was Not His Addiction”

Michele, who met Monteith while both were starring on the Fox series and dated him from 2012 to 2013, has posted images and/or messages about the actor on each anniversary of his death, and carries more permanent tributes to him on her person in the form of several tattoos, including his Glee character’s football jersey number.

In a 2014 interview with Seventeen, Michele said that she “only had happy memories of Cory. He was not his addiction – unfortunately, it won. But that wasn’t who he was. Cory made me feel like a queen every day.”

In addition to Michele, Monteith’s co-star Kevin McHale posted an image of the actor on his Instagram page, with a caption that read, “The sweetest boy. Forever.”

Amber Riley’s Instagram post featured a candid of her with Monteith and the caption “6 years without those bear hugs.” And Heather Morris commented on Jenna Ushkowitz’s post by writing, “Missing him a lot lately.”

Their co-star, Matthew Morrison, later added, “I love this pic!”

    His Struggle

Monteith’s struggle with drugs and alcohol began in his early teens, which he described in a 2011 interview with Parade as a period in which he “burned a lot of bridges.” He entered rehab for the first time at the age of 19, and earned headlines in 2013 for an on-set intervention by cast and crewmembers that resulted in a stint in rehab that same year.

After completing a 30-day period of treatment in April, Monteith was found dead in a room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel on July 13. He was 31 years old.

  • Artie Lange "Doing Well," Back In Rehab After Probation Violation

Artie Lange "Doing Well," Back In Rehab After Probation Violation

Lange will reportedly stay in rehab until the end of summer.

Comedian Artie Lange, formerly of The Howard Stern Show, is reportedly “doing well” after being arrested for violating his probation following prosecution for heroin and cocain posession.

Officials told Radar Online that Lange is “currently doing well and following the rules” and will be staying at a rehabilitation facility in Clinton Hill, New Jersey through the end of the summer.

    Legal Troubles

Lange was arrested in May by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, who said that he was “non-compliant” with his probation in spite of reports that the comedian was doing great. His most recent legal troubles started in 2017 with the possession charges, which resulted in him being ordered into an intensive six-month addiction treatment program in March.

The arrests may be the best thing for him, according to individuals close to Lange who reportedly spoke to Radar Online. One “insider” said that Lange was in “self-destruct mode” and was avoiding a drug court program that could have helped him avoid prison time so that he could continue to use drugs.

“He knows he won’t survive drug court,” the source said. “So he’s going to party as much as he can until he gets thrown in jail or a year-long rehab.”

This isn’t the first time Lange has been arrested for drug possession and gone to a rehab program. After developing an addiction to alcohol and cocaine early in his comedy career, he attempted suicide in 1995 after running out of the stimulant and entered rehab and counseling.

    Artie’s History

He then suffered a relapse in late 1996 and was arrested after fleeing an intervention staged by his fellow Mad TV cast members. He swore off cocaine in 1997, but continued to struggle with alcohol and opioid addiction, relapses, and mental illness, including another suicide attempt in 2010.

Lange’s continuing struggles with addiction resulted in his leaving The Howard Stern Show after 10 years. In a Rolling Stone interview published in May, Stern finally opened up about his concern for his former co-host and friend’s health and state of mind after so many years of fighting an intense drug problem.

“I’m very dismayed about where he’s at. I do care, but for a whole bunch of reasons that relationship had to stop,” Stern said. “Artie was on the show for 10 years. He’s a fantastic comedian. There’s nobody who could have sat in like that.”

After his 2017 arrest, Lange often posted happy videos of himself doing his court-ordered community service work, giving the impression that all was well. However, Radar Online sources have said that the comedian’s health has been in decline due to his diabetes.

“He’s had to have medical assistance several times already for his diabetes,” a source reported.

Hopefully, the latest reports that he’s doing well will prove to be true.

  • Rip Torn Dies; Oscar-Nominated Actor Struggled With Alcoholism

Rip Torn Dies; Oscar-Nominated Actor Struggled With Alcoholism

    The actor was 88.

Actor Rip Torn, a larger-than-life presence in film, on television and stage for more than a half-century, died at his home in Connecticut on July 9.

Though Torn was perhaps best known for comedic roles—he won an Emmy for his turn on The Larry Sanders Show and was an inveterate scene stealer in Albert Brooks’ Defending Your Life30 Rock and the Men in Black franchise. But he was also a Tony-nominated stage actor and earned an Oscar nomination as a hard-drinking bayou resident in Cross Creek (1984).

Torn also struggled with alcohol in real life, and earned headlines in the late 2000s for a series of run-ins with the law that led to a suspended jail sentence in 2010.

Born Elmore Rual Torn Jr. in Temple, Texas on February 6, 1931, his unique moniker was a tradition passed down to all the men in his family. He headed west to launch an acting career in Hollywood, but found more success in New York, where he studied under Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio, and later helped his cousin, Sissy Spacek, join their ranks.

A connection with director Elia Kazan led to early roles in films like Baby Doll (1956) and the original Broadway run of Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of You, which led to a supporting role in the feature film version in 1962. Torn’s co-star, Geraldine Page, would become his second wife, and they remained married until her death in 1987.

Torn eventually settled into character roles, playing intense, complicated figures including Judas in King of Kings (1961) and a selfish country singer in the cult favorite Payday (1973).

He also forged a reputation as a difficult, even volatile actor. He famously assaulted writer-turned-director Norman Mailer with a hammer while filming the experimental drama Maidstone in 1970 (the fight remained in the film), and successfully sued Dennis Hopper in 1998 over claims that he had pulled a knife on the actor during the production of Easy Rider (1968), for which Torn was originally slated in the role played by Jack Nicholson.

Despite his reputation, Torn was in demand as a character actor, and shifted away from heavies to play ornery, avuncular comedic roles in the ’90s and early 2000s.

A turn as a heavenly defense attorney in Albert Brooks’ Defending Your Life led to his role on Larry Sanders and six consecutive Emmy nominations, including a win in 1996. Torn was soon a staple of film and TV comedies, including an Emmy-nominated recurring role on 30 Rock and memorable appearances as Zed in the Men in Black films, Sofia Coppola’s Marie AntoinetteDodgeball: A True Underdog Story and other films.

At the height of his career, Torn’s struggles with alcohol became a matter of public record. He was arrested three times between 2004 and 2008 for driving under the influence, and in 2010, broke into a bank branch office in Connecticut while intoxicated.

Charged with carrying a firearm while intoxicated and first-degree burglary, among others, Torn was released after his lawyer told the judge that his client needed treatment for alcohol dependency.

He eventually pled guilty to reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and other charges, and received a two-and-a-half year suspended sentence and three years probation.

Torn returned to sporadic work in independent features, and logged his final role with voice-acting work for the Comedy Central animated series TripTank. At the time of his death, he was 88.

  • Lily Allen Talks Addiction, Mental Health Treatment

Lily Allen Talks Addiction, Mental Health Treatment

Allen recently revealed she spent time in a psychiatric ward.

British singer Lily Allen has been very open with the public about her struggles with addiction and mental health, and she’s now speaking out to The Guardian about her time in a psychiatric ward.

Allen acknowledged that the music industry isn’t the best environment to maintain your mental health. “I’m surprised I’m not dead,” she says today. “The music industry was a hedonistic place in the noughties. It was all about having fun and getting fucked up. People who indulge don’t generally come out the other side. Having children trigged responsibilities.”

Last year she told People, “I think it was age. Waking up on a tour bus, really hungover with makeup running—it’s not a good look when you’re 30. It’s okay when you’re 19!”

Allen also told The Guardian, “I chose sex over heroin. I didn’t realize [it] at the time. Addiction can manifest itself in all manners of ways. You use substances or sex to put a plaster over something else, like pain or fear. There are all manner of destructive things you can get up to.”

Allen Reveals That She’s Living With Bipolar Disorder, PTSD

In 2017, Allen went public about living with bipolar disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after she had a stillborn child.

Allen also revealed that she spent three months in a psychiatric ward, which she says “wasn’t a positive experience at the time, but I came out of it slightly healthier than when I went in. I’d been trying to harm myself so I was under close supervision. One thing I learned while there was about the formative years and attachment parenting. Both my parents were busy when I was young so I try to make myself less busy for my children now.”

As Allen’s children get older, she’s concerned about how they will deal with social media, which is a psychological hazard many parents have to navigate today.

“I worry about Instagram for my daughters, because it makes young, impressionable girls feel their whole value is based on their looks. When the surefire way to increase your followers and likes is by taking your clothes off and piling on makeup, that’s what you’ll do because you want validation, just like every teenager.”

    Lily In A Parallel Dimension

Acknowledging she’s had a messy life, the singer quipped, “I hope the other Lily Allen in a parallel dimension is doing well. I think she lives in Cornwall, works as a florist supplying flowers to boutique shops in London, and lives in a lovely house with her children.”

  • Shia LaBeouf Talks Alcoholism & How His New Theater Company Changed His Life

Shia LaBeouf Talks Alcoholism & How His New Theater Company Changed His Life

The movie star has had a rough few years, but is happier and less lonely with his Slauson R.C. Theater Company.

Actor Shia LaBeouf is happier now that he’s found a community at the Slauson R.C. Theater Company, a performing arts program he co-founded.

His film career has seen the extremes of the creative spectrum, from mainstream blockbusters like Transformers to arthouse flicks like American Honey. His personal life has been a roller coaster as well, garnering national attention for his racist tirade during a public drunkenness arrest.

LaBeouf Says Theater Company Has Given Him A New Lease On Life

But now that LaBeouf has the support of his theater community, he says he’s happier than he’s ever been in his entire life. LaBeouf’s Slauson Rec. initiative is open to anyone with “a story that they’re willing to share” whether or not they are trained or experienced actors. While the pursuit seems wholesome, LeBeouf admits in an interview that his passion for it comes from a place of selfishness.

“I mean look, this isn’t straight altruism and charity work at all. It started in selfishness, it remains in selfishness. This shit is super selfish, it’s not like I’m fucking out here helping the kids, that’s not what’s going on,” he told Dazed Digital. “I’m trying to allow myself some kind of happily-ever-after scenario.”

He also freely admits that the theater company is just another way to chase the high he experienced while drinking.

“A big reason I was such a fucking alcoholic is that when I’m fully absorbed, or lost in something, or immersed in something bigger than myself, it’s a high,” he revealed. “So I drank because it allowed me this freedom for a time from this constant chatter, this self-monitoring of my daily life, right? This fucking anxious self-scrutiny, this non-stop chatter, and I lose that in these workshops when I’m caught up in the work that we’re making as a group. It is a high. I’m chasing a high.”

Things weren’t always rosy for LaBeouf, who garnered negative scrutiny in 2017 after telling a black officer that another black officer was “a black man who arrested me for being white in a city that don’t have nothing to do with none of it.”

LaBeouf Will Portray His Father, Who Battles Alcoholism, In His New Film

In a video of the arrest, LaBeouf belligerently questions why the officers would enforce the law for a president and a police force that “doesn’t give a f— about you.”

“So you wanna arrest, what, white people who give a f— who ask for cigarettes? I came up trying to be nice, you stupid b—,” LaBeouf said on camera, among other things. “I got more millionaire lawyers than you know what to do with, you stupid b—.”

The officers report that the incident began when a stranger refused LaBeouf’s request for a cigarette.

Now, LaBeouf is taking the root of his trauma head-on in the upcoming film, Honey Boy, wherein he plays his own alcoholic father.

  • New Documentary Explores Hollywood’s "Secret" Addiction Epidemic

New Documentary Explores Hollywood’s "Secret" Addiction Epidemic

The film purports to expose “how many A-list celebrities are becoming victims of Hollywood’s secret opioid epidemic and what role the studios will play in ending the crisis.”

A new documentary titled Fatal Addiction: Hollywood’s Secret Epidemic attempts to shed light on the amount of drug use among actors and other stars, particularly focusing on opioids.

Led by celebrity journalist Nancy O’Dell, the film purports to expose “how many A-list celebrities are becoming victims of Hollywood’s secret opioid epidemic and what role the studios will play in ending the crisis,” according to the synopsis.

A review by entertainment reporter Amy Zimmerman of The Daily Beast paints a picture of a sensationalizing film that puts too much blame for the opioid epidemic and other drug crises on Hollywood but that offers some important insights into the problem of Hollywood drug use.

Among the most notable insights are the stories about young actresses being pressured to take Adderall “so they can keep going and stay thin.”

Cocktails of dangerous drugs, often involving opioids, have claimed the lives of many A-list celebrities, from Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe to Heath Ledger and Prince. Fatal Addiction tells stories of drug use that was expected and encouraged.

“There was so much drug use on that set, it was kind of mind-numbing. And as a kid, you’re not sure how to negotiate that,” recalls Mariel Hemingway about her time filming Woody Allen’s Manhattan as a teenager.

In the case of Prince, the iconic performer was first put on opioids due to “hip problems,” and years later, by the time of his overdose, “his house was full of pills, full of opioids.” The primary drug responsible for his death was fentanyl, the synthetic opioid up to 100 times more potent than heroin.

The film does touch on the role of the pharmaceutical industry and doctors too willing to prescribe opioids in the epidemic and the deaths of many celebrities.

“Anna Nicole Smith’s doctors, as one example, are called out for ‘unbelievably bad medicine,’” Zimmerman writes, “a point that could have been made without going into extreme, gruesome detail about Smith’s state at the time of her death.”

Smith was found dead in her hotel room in 2007 and was determined to have died of “combined drug intoxication,” with all the drugs in her system being legally prescribed medications. Many celebrity overdoses have resulted from a combination of substances, particularly opioids and benzodiazepines.

Fatal Addiction isn’t a paradigm of sensitivity and nuance, and often falters when it attempts to propose actionable solutions,” Zimmerman concludes. “But as a history of celebrity addiction and a testament to this particularly deadly era, it’s alarmingly successful.”

  • Kit Harington of "Game of Thrones" Enters Rehab

Kit Harington of "Game of Thrones" Enters Rehab

Harington is reportedly being treated for “stress, exhaustion and also alcohol.”

Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has been in a Connecticut rehabilitation center for nearly a month.

Page Six reported that Harington checked into rehab for exhaustion, stress, and alcohol abuse treatment. Harington had the backing of his wife, Rose Leslie, who played his love interest, Ygritte, on the HBO mega hit.

An unnamed source claiming to be a friend of Harington told Page Six of the actor, “The end of GoT really hit Kit hard… He realized, this is it, this is the end. It was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, what next? He’s in the clinic predominantly for stress and exhaustion and also alcohol. His wife Rose is being extremely supportive. Everyone close to him really wanted him to get some rest. Right now, he just needs peace and quiet.”

*This portion of the article contains Game of Thrones spoilers*

Harington had recently been in the media spotlight for his emotional response at a table reading for the final episode of Game of Thrones, where he (and the rest of the cast) found out that it was his character, Jon Snow, who kills his on-air love, the dragon queen Daenerys.

In the documentary footage of The Last Watch, Harington reads out loud the fate of the two characters, and sits back with tears in his eyes while holding his head with one hand.

Harington has been public about how difficult ending the beloved show was for him. In a recent Esquire interview he described crying on the last day of filming, and feeling sad as the character’s costume was taken off of him.

Harington described the tremendous emotional weight he felt when his character, Jon Snow, became the focal point of Game of Thrones. “It wasn’t a very good time in my life,” he told Variety. “I felt I had to feel that I was the most fortunate person in the world when actually, I felt very vulnerable. My darkest period was when the show seemed to become so much about Jon when he died and came back,” he explained. “I really didn’t like the focus of the whole show coming onto Jon.

“When you become the cliffhanger of a TV show, and a TV show probably at the height of its power, the focus on you is f—ing terrifying. That was a time when I started therapy and started talking to people. I had felt very unsafe, and I wasn’t talking to anyone.”
