Steve-O Shares Video Of Every Drug He's Ever Done To Celebrate Sober Milestone

The jarring, NSFW footage offers a no-holds-barred look into the Jackass star’s past drug use.

Jackass star Steve-O offered up a catalog of cautionary tales in which he not only detailed every drug he’d ever used, but also shocking and decidedly NSFW footage of his behavior while using those substances.

    A Decade Of Sobriety

Steve-O (born Stephen Gilchrist Glover), who celebrated a decade of sobriety in 2018, was unsparing in not only detailing but also showcasing how his dependency had impacted his life, which he described as “seriously messed up.”

Fans reacted with an outpouring of praise for his efforts to remain honest about his path to sobriety.

“This is probably the most embarrassing video I will ever put out,” Steve-O said as an introduction to the video, which opens with footage of what he described as his last bender in 2008, where he used ketamine shortly after being released from jail on felony drug charges. From there, Steve-O ticked off a staggering list of narcotic and illicit substances, providing recollections and jarring video footage for each.

    His Drug List

The drug list opened with marijuana, which Steve-O said he brought across international borders—even to countries like Singapore, which imposes the death penalty for drug smuggling—in condoms he swallowed and then passed through his bowels.

From there, viewers witnessed Steve-O kissing and licking his Jackass co-stars while under the influence of ecstasy, kissing co-star Chris Pontius on the head of his penis while drunk, and recalling to the media about being taken, unresponsive, from his apartment by first responders after ingesting five bars of Xanax.

“If you gave me a pill, and I didn’t know what it was, I didn’t care,” said Steve-O, shortly before launching into some of the most shocking footage on the video. This included self-shot scenes in a hotel room where, after using PCP, cocaine and marijuana, he became obsessed with sending an email to rapper 50 Cent (despite lacking any means of contacting him); blowing cocaine residue congealed in nasal mucus onto a beer can and then smoking the residue; convulsing after using nitrous oxide, and recalling his experiences with ingesting household products (video head cleaner and aluminum cleaner).

After years of what can only be described as self-abuse, Steve-O was committed to a psychiatric ward by Johnny Knoxville and his Jackass co-stars in 2008. In 2018, he celebrated a decade of sobriety. Steve-O has remained active posting videos on his YouTube channel and touring, and has discussed the possibility of a fourth Jackass film.

Response to the video was overwhelmingly positive, with one follower writing, “Thank you for your honesty and putting this out there. We shouldn’t be ashamed of our past, we should learn from it and celebrate how far we’ve come.”

  • Steve-O Describes Rescue Dogs' Role In His Long-Term Recovery

Steve-O Describes Rescue Dogs' Role In His Long-Term Recovery

“Caring about something other than me is fundamentally helpful for recovery,” Steve-O said in a recent interview.

In a recent interview, Jackass alum Steve-O said that having his rescue dogs had a positive impact on his long-term recovery, by giving him something to care for other than himself.

While playing a round of Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction? with Loudwire, Steve-O (born Stephen Gilchrist Glover) addressed whether statements found on his Wikipedia page were truth or fiction.

When asked if he “credited his two rescue dogs, Walter and Bernie, with helping him to maintain sobriety,” as it is stated on his page, Steve-O replied, “I credit them with contributing to it, sure. It’s said that alcoholism and addiction in general is driven mostly by selfishness and self-centeredness. It’s a disease that’s centered in the mind. And selfishness and self-centeredness is at the root of all of our problems.”

He added, “So to have rescued my first dog, it was a meaningful exercise in dedicating myself to a priority which wasn’t me. So caring about something other than me is fundamentally helpful for recovery.”

    Hitting Rock Bottom

Steve-O committed to recovery in 2008 following a dramatic hospitalization that became the starting point of his journey.

“When I got to the hospital, I was spitting on people, I was just generally so unlovely,” he told Loudwire in a separate conversation. “They had me for two weeks… It was time. My life was a disaster. I decided about seven days in that I not only wanted to go into treatment, but that I didn’t want to waste my time in treatment.”

He expanded on this moment in a 2011 interview with The Fix: “Basically, I took an honest look at myself and at my actions, and was horrified and felt like I couldn’t forgive or live with myself. The answer was to stop doing the shit that made me feel bad and create a new history.”

Since then, Steve-O has been consistent in his recovery. Last year he celebrated a decade sober, and thanked his Jackass family including Johnny Knoxville for pushing him to get help.

“Hard to believe it’s been an entire decade since I’ve had a drink of booze or any drug stronger than Advil,” he said on social media. “I just can’t put into words how grateful I am for @johnnyknoxville and the rest of the guys who locked me up in a psychiatric ward on March, 9, 2008, where this journey began. Thank you, dudes, I love you.”

It’s not always easy to stay the course, Steve-O admitted. “Certainly, I’ve had plenty of periods of discomfort,” he told Loudwire. “It’s always pretty scary, but you’ve just gotta stay plugged in and do the deal.”

These days, Steve-O is active on his YouTube channel and is currently on tour in the U.S. and Canada until late November.

He and fellow sober Jackass alum Brandon Novak have been vocal about supporting their friend Bam Margera, another member of the Jackass family, who has garnered a reputation for his erratic behavior amid a reported battle with bipolar disorder and substance abuse. As of Thursday morning, Margera was back in a treatment facility after being arrested in Los Angeles early Wednesday.

“Us sober people love it when you reach out for help,” Steve-O told Loudwire. “Join the pack, find someone who’s already sober and let us show you the way.”

  • Bam Margera Completes Court-Mandated AA, But Friends Are Worried

Bam Margera Completes Court-Mandated AA, But Friends Are Worried

The troubled skateboarder has completed treatment, but those who know him fear the worst could be ahead.

Even after completing his court-mandated, three-month-long online alcohol program and attending AA meetings, Bam Margera’s friends are worried for his life.

Margera’s colleague and Jackass co-star Brandon Novak told TMZ that he’s worried about Margera’s decision to leave rehab early. Novak, who is in recovery, expressed his disappointment in Margera leaving rehab, because he felt he would otherwise be killing him, saying, “enable an addict, bury an addict.”

But Margera wasn’t satisfied with sitting in rehab, sharing these feelings in a journal entry he posted on social media.

“Dear assholes who want to talk shit about my sobriety…” he began.

He went on to explain that he left because the rehab facility did not seem to think that he needed any detox or medications, so he figured he was wasting his time. His lawyer also mentioned that Margera is ahead of his legal obligations in regards to his DUI.

Margera was placed in rehab after getting a DUI in Los Angeles in January last year. At the time, he was already struggling with drinking.

“I never had any pill problems and I’ve never tried heroin in my life, but it’s been a real struggle for me to stay off the alcohol,” he said in a 2017 interview. “But just as long as you’re surrounded by good people and you have something to do, you’ll be good.”

He avoided jail time, opting for three years probation and mandatory alcohol programs as well as compulsory visits to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Margera was managing to stay sober until late last year, when he posted a video of himself in distress and telling the story of the life-threatening robbery he had just experienced.

“I just arrived in Cartagena alone and I took a taxi, a random one, from the airport to here and I wouldn’t speak Spanish, they couldn’t speak English, and they translated on their phone to read ‘empty your wallet’ as they put a gun on their lap to show it to me. So I did and I had 500 bucks,” he recounted in the video. “They let me go. Welcome to Colombia.”

At the end, he cracked open a beer. Following the post, Steve-O publicly expressed his concern that Margera wasn’t even sober prior to the robbery. Steve-O himself, like Novak, is a now-sober Jackass alumnus.

  • Steve-O Talks Rock Bottom: My Addiction Was Desperate & Pathetic

Steve-O Talks Rock Bottom: My Addiction Was Desperate & Pathetic

The reality TV star discussed his rock bottom moment during an interview on In Depth with Graham Bensinger.

Steve-O did a lot of silly and dangerous stunts when he was staring on Jackass, but the former star says that his addiction put him at much greater risk. In a recent episode of In Depth with Graham Bensinger, Steve-O described his rock bottom.

“I’m in [my dealer’s] house and over at the table where he would weigh out all of his drugs, there was a very noticeable residue of cocaine,” Steve-O said, according to People. “And so I went over to the table to scrape up a pile of cocaine to snort it. But as I had sat down looking at it … you could see, like, the little tiny little blood splatter on the residue.”

His dealer, he said, was known to have HIV. However, the risk of contracting the disease wasn’t enough to scare Steve-O off from using the drugs.

“This is how just desperate and pathetic my addiction was that I sat there knowingly scraping up this tainted, like, blood cocaine. I sat there and snorted it, which is so f–d up,” he said. “I snorted the blood of an intravenous drug user.”

On the episode, Steve-O, 43, also discussed the physical toll that Jackass took on him and how it still concerns him today.

He said, “I can count five times where I was hit in the head hard enough to actually like black out … That’s concerning to me. I mean especially where the one time I landed on my face on concrete off a second-floor balcony.”

He also made some loose safety demands on set, he said.

“I heard that getting kicked in the balls a lot like a lot of trauma to your testicles increases your chances for testicular cancer. Once I heard that, I decided to be like, it’s gotta be like a really special occasion if I’m gonna take a nut shot.”

Steve-O posted on Twitter last March that he has been sober for a decade, thanks in part to the intervention from his friends and co-stars.

“Hard to believe it’s been an entire decade since I’ve had a drink or a drug. I just can’t put into words how grateful I am for @realjknoxville and the rest of the guys who locked me up in a psychiatric ward on March 9, 2008, where this journey began. Thank you, dudes, I love you,” he wrote.

Now, he’s trying to do the same for former colleague Bam Margera, who recently reentered rehab after a relapse that Steve-O saw coming.

“I mean, I don’t know. And I don’t want him to [feel like] I’m attacking him or calling him out, I just think that there were signs that, if he hadn’t already drank, it was evident that he was going to,” Steve-O said. “The signs were there. I think if you’re a sober alcoholic that you kind of can tell.”

  • Steve-O Celebrates A Decade Of Sobriety In A Unique Way

Steve-O Celebrates A Decade Of Sobriety In A Unique Way

“I really can’t believe how far I’ve come on this journey of life,” the reality star tweeted.

Steve-O celebrated his 10-year sober milestone by competing in his first triathlon.

As Runner’s World reports, the Jackass alum participated in the 32nd annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon, which raises money for children’s cancer research. Alongside other stars like Joel McHale, Steve Howe and Jon Cryer, Steve-O (born Stephen Glover) did a half-mile swim, a four-mile beach run, and a 17-mile bike ride.

Steve-O’s enthusiasm for the event was off the charts. “I really can’t believe how far I’ve come on this journey of life… I just got tenth place in my division at my first ever triathlon! Woohoo!!! (Full disclosure – my division was ‘men’s celebrity,’ but there were tons of celebrities, so I’m stoked!)” he tweeted after the race.

Before getting sober years ago, Steve-O’s drugs of choice included cocaine, alcohol, ketamine, PCP and nitrous oxide.

Earlier this year, Steve-O tweeted about his sobriety on the date his friends had him committed:

“Hard to believe it’s been an entire decade since I’ve had a drink or a drug. I just can’t put into words how grateful I am for [Jackass star Johnny Knoxville] and the rest of the guys who locked me up in a psychiatric ward on March 9, 2008, where this journey began. Thank you, dudes, I love you.”

Before he was committed, Steve-O sent out an alarming e-mail saying, “I’m ready to f—ing die.” He was then put on a 5150 hold on March 9, and later transferred to rehab. He vowed, “You can count on my staying nuts; it’s just the alcohol and drugs I’m trying to leave behind.”

In his goodbye letter to drugs, he confessed, “It became frighteningly clear to me how lucky I am to still have any chance whatsoever at leading a happy, fulfilling and meaningful life. My luck will not last with continued use of alcohol and drugs that are not prescribed to me by doctors that are aware of my addictions.”

In getting sober, Steve-O has embraced a much healthier lifestyle. He’s now a vegan, and on a mission to have his healthiest year in 2018.

In a recent Instagram post, he wrote, “For my birthday this year, I decided to get in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I may be old, but I’m healthy as fuck!”

  • Steve-O Discusses Bam Margera's Recent Relapse

Steve-O Discusses Bam Margera's Recent Relapse

Margera was allegedly seven months sober prior to cracking open a beer following a traumatizing mugging, but Steve-O doesn’t buy it.

Jackass alum, Steve-O, sat down for an interview with TooFab where he weighed in on a recent Instagram post by former Jackass co-star, Bam Margera.

In a recent post, Margera shared that he had been robbed of $500 during a taxi ride from the airport to Cartagena, Colombia. He then cracks open a bottle of Club Colombia beer with one hand, though the latter part seems to have been removed.

Bam’s act was significant as it marked the end of seven months of sobriety, which came hard won after being charged with a DUI in January and being sent to rehab by the courts.

However, Steve-O seems to believe that Margera had already broken his sobriety prior to the robbery. “I guess. I don’t know that that’s the case, but perhaps,” Steve-O said in regards to the alleged seven-month timeframe.

Steve-O was at first hesitant to expand on what he meant by the statement, but ended up explaining himself.

“I mean, I don’t know. And I don’t want him to [feel like] I’m attacking him or calling him out, I just think that there were signs that, if he hadn’t already drank, it was evident that he was going to,” Steve-O explained. “The signs were there. I think if you’re a sober alcoholic that you kind of can tell.”

Steve-O seemed to believe Margera wasn’t ready for sobriety.

“When people are on the path, sort of doing the things that sober people do, it’s evident,” he exanded. “It’s evident that he’s not been ready or willing to do the simple things that sober people do that make our lives really great. It’s sad, and I wish that I could somehow force him to want to do these things and get healthy and have a great life, but it doesn’t work that way. You can’t push people into it.”

Speaking with 10 years of sobriety, Steve-O said that even if Margera resorted to drinking because of the robbery, it’s still a poor decision.

“Let’s say he did get drunk because of being robbed—we call that the philosophy of a man who having a headache hits himself in the head with a hammer so that he cannot feel the ache,” Steve-O explained. “Way to go. Now you got two problems.”

Margera has long struggled with alcoholism. He recently tried to get healthy by taking a long trip and isolating himself, but ended up falling off the wagon.

“I think the catalyst was when I stepped on a scale after a fucking drinking bender and I was 230 pounds. So I flew myself to Estonia, to the middle of the fucking woods in a log cabin for six months. I was on a full-blown Rocky Balboa mission to hike and bike and get myself in shape just to be able to skate,” Margera said.

However, in January Margera got the DUI that landed him in rehab.
